Physical

Astronaut candidates must demonstrate excellent physical condition.

Space cadets must undergo intensive periods of training to participate in spaceflight, during which their bodies will be subject to a great deal of stress such as bone demineralization and muscle loss.

Cadets will go through a multi-stage fitness test which will assess their endurance, strength, flexibility, eye hand coordination and courage.

Spacewalking for several hours in a pressurized suit is very demanding physically. Generally the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy both your years of training and flying into space!
